In this episode of Imagine the Possibilities, I continue our Season 5 journey of becoming by exploring a question that I believe touches nearly every part of our lives: What is character?
I’ve come to believe that character isn’t something we simply claim to have. It’s revealed through the choices we make, particularly when we’re faced with the harder right and the easier wrong. It’s built one choice, one decision, and one act at a time.
I share stories about two people who had a lasting influence on my understanding of character: my dad and my friend and mentor, Bob. Neither needed to give me a lecture about character. They demonstrated it through integrity, humility, respect, accountability, and the way they treated other people.
I also share my “bent nail theory”—the idea that seemingly small compromises may quietly weaken the framework of our character over time.
Ultimately, I come back to a question worth asking ourselves: How do the people around us experience our character?
And perhaps an even more personal one: What choice did I make today that strengthened my character—and was there one that quietly weakened it?
